What is a BJD?

BJD stands for "Ball Jointed Doll". They are also referred to as "Asian Ball Jointed Dolls" or ABJD. These dolls are constructed of sculpted, molded resin parts strung with elastic cord. Their eyes are inset and removable and their heads are left smooth for wigging. BJDs are unique in the doll world as they are designed to be customized by their owners.

Large "SD"

Volks Masha - 58cm limited SD girl, beauty white skin, faceup by Engelmech. Masha was a special limited edition only available through Fashion Doll Quarterly, no doubt released for those of us still crying about missing out on her sister Sasha. I do appreciate default Masha's pale Victorian beauty, but OMG look at my stunning Ruby with her drop dead gorgeous faceup!! This sculpt is a work of art.

Volks Spring Stroll Liz - 58cm SD girl. Default Volks faceup, swarrico body. Liz is a dream doll for me. I couldn't afford her at those inflated eBay and YJ prices but Volks re-released her in the Another Yourself book limited Spring Stroll version and I pounced. I've been thinking of her as Liz for so long I can't imagine calling her by a different name. She's stunning in person.

Volks Sunlight F26 - 60cm SD13 girl, sunlight skin, Volks faceup. Another dream doll! Symphony is just exactly the doll I would have ordered if I went through the whole sato FCS process. Fortunately I didn't have to because I received her in trade for another doll! Volks sunlight skin is amazing - smooth and perfect. Now I'm REALLY spoiled :)

Volks Limited Link - 60cm SD13 boy. Default Volks faceup. Limited Link's head is "frankensteined" onto Dreaming Lucas' body. It didn't hurt a bit! I've never changed his name because I think it's cool and it suits him.

Domuya O.N.E. Limited Jedtas - "The Gentleman" - 60cm SD13 sized boy. Default faceup by Domuya, outfit by Dollheart. Arrived from Domuya snuggled in a satin bunny sleeping bag (complete with ears!), nestled comfortably and safely in a wooden carrying case. Domuya packaging can't be beat! I call him Jett.

Volks Limited SD Mika - 58cm SD girl. Enhanced default faceup. Mika came together in pieces (head, body and outfit bought separately) but is complete now with all her defaults. Her body is the first SD10 pureskin version which I appreciate for it's slightly smaller proportions. Although her default faceup is a bit plain, I'm charmed by her startled expression and have done my best to preserve the faceup and simply enhance the colors.

Unidoll UH-13 - 60cm girl, custom Unidoll faceup. Gothic, brooding, intense and lifelike, my Andromeda's direct and piercing gaze is unsettling. The French resin is utterly luminous. What a fantastic body for posing - love how the knees lock.

CustomHouse Miya - 58cm SD size girl, old body, normal skin, gothic faceup & body blushing by Evenstar Design. Rachel is an older doll (2004) and came to me second hand but in absolutely beautiful shape. I'm so in awe of Rachel Graves' enormous talent and although this doll came to me with the name "Rikku", I've renamed her Rachel. Alice in Labyrinth - Alice - SD size girl head, faceup by Cristy Stone of Xtreme Dolls, temporarily sharing a Volks body with Sophie. One look and I immediately knew her name was Isabel. Sometimes it hits you like that ;)  Isabel's faceup is so expertly shaded that she looks "real"! I may be biased but I think my Alice head is the prettiest one ever :)

Volks SD10 Megu - 58cm SD girl. Faceup by Cycy. This is Sophie #2! Sophie #1 was a Yori, but when the Megu head arrived I sold Yori because I didn't have enough bodies to go around. So Megu took over Yori's body...and her name! To make matters even more confusing she has since traded bodies with Mika...:)

Doll In Mind Minimee - 60cm SD sized girl, regular skin, AOD body, faceup by DIM artist, tweaked by me. Using photos of me, Anne's head was custom sculpted by DIM to resemble yours truly. Doll In Mind Minimee - 43cm MSD sized girl, regular skin, CH Jr Ai body, faceup by DIM artist. Her sculpt is based on photos of my 8 year old daughter and her name Rose is Devon's middle name. If I had the funds I'd get the whole family done!

Volks Dolpa 7 One-Off "Antique Style" MSD - 43cm MSD girl, original Volks faceup & eyes, original Bravot dress, socks & shoes. The mohair wig is a duplicate of the original.  I'm her third (and hopefully last!)owner. She was created by a Volks artist for Dolpa 7 in spring 2002, so consequently is oldskin. Her body is wired and unsanded. Her headsculpt is most likely the prototype for Yuni I. I've given her the delicate old fashioned name of Ivy. There isn't a lot of online information about her and she's too "old" to be listed in Volks One-Off Index so I can't share an official link.  As I understand it, her sister was a One-Off Antique Style MSD Mika. I'd love to bring her home as well!
 

CustomHouse Unique Jr Ai White Irang - 43cm MSD sized girl, snow white skin. An exquisitely rendered CustomHouse Unique (only one of her in the world) and although I try not to play favorites, my girl Lily has a special place in my heart.

"Mature" Mini

Unoa Sist - 40cm girl. Ask any BJD collector and they'll tell you: Unoas rule! They are delicious little things! I used to also have a Lusis but I sold her to buy Link. I really do prefer the closed mouth Sist sculpt. My Sist's name is Kitty and her lovely faceup is by Lilykoi.

Cerberus Project Mini Fee Shushu - 43cm girl, normal skin, default faceup by Luts. This girl is beautiful from EVERY angle! I resisted her for as long as I could :) This is standard Shushu (not the elf) but to me she seems more elvish than fairy-like. Wig and outfit also by Luts. I bought them especially for her.

CastleAnne One Off "She Love New York" - 43cm girl, tanning skin, faceup by BrokenTeeth, styling by Dollsvogue. Cassie is a One Off who was displayed at the Doll Free Market in Korea. I've always admired this particular doll and was thrilled to come across her sale thread on DoA.

 CustomHouse Costume Play "Sound of Music" Little Jr Muse - 35cm snow white skin tiny girl.(A rather BIG tiny, but still classified as tiny :)) I have a weakness for CH snow skin girls - there's something very special about them. They are the dolls in my collection who look most "alive". She appears to be modeled after Angela Cartwright's character Brigitta in the film, but I've dubbed her Penny for Ms Cartwright's other famous character! CH says that although they are Costume Play dolls, they are also Uniques as only one of each was made.

Souldoll Soul Sweet Ponette - 27cm tiny girl, normal skin, default faceup. With an impish grin and hooded eyes, this little girl is even cuter in person - a sculpt full of personality. While Fleur looks great in many different wigs and styles of dress, she seems most at home in bonnets and lace. Her default purple Souldoll eyes are so perfect. I doubt I'll ever change them.

LatiDoll Special HK Elf ver Lea & basic Lumi - 16cm tiny girls, normal skin, default faceups. I bought Violet second hand but she's in perfect condition and has all her sweet defaults. Lumi was an impluse order made when I saw that Lati had finally restocked their basic yellows ;)

Roxy Doll Special Tanning Lucy (Ver 1) - 19cm tiny girl, default Roxy faceup, purchased from DollnDoll. Such a pretty little thing! Her joint system is most interesting and her skin is a soft tan color which glows with something akin to good health. Finally I have someone to wear that killer pair of vibrant green 8mm MP eyes! There's a good heft to my Kat when she's held in the palm of the hand. This is my kind of Tiny!

Fairyland Pukipuki Pipi - 11cm tiny girl, normal skin, default faceup, pukisha parts painted by me. Olive is the tiniest doll I've ever owned and hands down the best poser of them all. The puki body design is ingenious and the ease with which you change her hands and feet is really incredible. She sticks to the fridge due to all the little magnets in her limbs :)

LatiDoll White Sp tanning Lily - 12cm tiny girl, tanning skin, default faceup. Pepper is about the same size as Olive so they can share clothes and wigs and be best buddies. Although many people like the smaller renewal bodies, I prefer the special body because it seems more in proportion with the head.
